{about me}

Im Ale and Im a writer, researcher and coach.... and a whole bunch of other things... You see, since you have been formally invited to my inner circle Ill let you in on a little secret... Im essentially a SCANNER. No, Im not a printer type device that converts digital images. In fact I didn't know I was a  "Scanner" until a few years back when I started doing some research thinking there was something seriously wrong with me. And guess what happened... I discovered that I do suffer from a major syndrome referred to as "Scannerism". Ok, that one I made up, in reality theres an amazing author/life coach out there and her name is Barbara Sher. I happened to cross paths with one of her books called "I could do anything if I only knew what is was". You see where Im going with this, right? Chapter 6 page 100 to be specific.: "I want too many things, Im all over the map". Whoa! Eureka! Someone finally understands me! Im not crazy, depressed, a loser, weird (well, that one is debatable)... There is a reason behind all this, you have no idea how important it is to get to the root of things for an aquarian like myself.

So there it was, the answer to all my questions and dilemmas. I decided to happily embrace this for myself and my life as a Scanner officially began. I obviously drove everyone crazy with this new discovery, friends, family and of course they don't get it but if you are one, then you know exactly what I mean. I started reading plenty about the subject, going over my life, experiences, realizing that in a way Ive always been like this. Scanners are born, not made. You cant choose to become one, you just are. I wasn't a child prodigy per se but I appeared to always be ahead of my time, but thats because I had this urge to get my head into everything, even for a mere taste. I had quite a difficult time finding myself during school years because I felt I was so different from the rest, I was a strange case of intense curiosity (about everything!). Of course my parents and teachers were ecstatic, with this bright child in front of them, wow she got everything right, she's very special and will be incredibly successful at whatever she does. I grew up surrounded by these comments and remarks. It sounds amazing right? Well you would think so, but the key words are "at whatever she does". Bam! Problem! Now what? I excel at everything I try, Im interested in trying everything, oh oh, somebody please give me some directions, tell me what to do!

Well Barbara didn't tell me what to do but I was so relieved to find that I wasn't the only one out there and that being a Scanner was a actually a great thing, once I learned the tools to go with that. And that point on I because incredibly thirsty for information regarding self knowledge and self discovery... Voracious is a more suitable term. Not because I wanted to change myself because I wanted to become a better version of me... And little by little good things started happening. I started getting to know myself a whole lot better, accepted the fact that I was different and was never going to fit a molde and came to good terms in enjoying my individuality and it can only get better!

So a little background scan, since were going to be friends. I was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela by mere chance, to a pair of high creative individuals having both been in the performing arts at one point in their lives. They came together, mighty good looking thankfully and after a few life experiences decided to procreate. That´s where I came in the picture. I was raised in Argentina as well as the US in places you might have heard of such as New York, California, Florida... We were not nomads as it may appear, we were business people who were expanding their empire that I would eventually take over. I didn´t. Empire went bust and so did my parents who got divorced when I was about 1 meter high. Mom very courageously became a single parent and spoiled me "to the mattresses"... I never know when to apply that term, if you´re a dude you know that´s from The God Father... I had all the privileges kids nowadays brag about on facebook. The best schools, trips, designer clothes, horses and dinners with Joan Fontaine ( we were related somehow). But home was a literature sanctuary, mom had studies the great works in college and her family inspired her to read anything she could get her hands on, some of it rubbed of on me and that´s how this adventure got started.

I was 8 years old when I started my own greeting card "company". By company I mean 3 8-9 year olds with a savvy business mindset and lots of glitter (and time after school). We closed after only 3 weeks but I was passionate about my creative streak as I would write the messages on all the cards with a little copyright infringement on behalf of Hallmark...
Right after came my first fashion magazine, all created with the super famous scented markers and a whole lot of imagination. Which is the essence of anything anyway right?
I eventually got into modeling, commercials and all those things weird parents make their weird children do in America, where we lived until my 12th birthday before returning to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I guess in some way I became a kid again, Barbie days were over but I wasn't yet ready to sell my Nintendo or my roller skates! But I stopped all my business start ups and focused entirely on hanging out, my theater group and more books.

Theater became a very important part of my life. I loved it! I lived for it. I think it became the only reason I wanted to go to school, well, that and Jonathan...  Countless hours of rehearsal, preparation, being with my friends, learning a craft, reading lines, loving every moment. I was in the group all through high school... You will find posts and info regarding my Drama Days...
I even started auditioning for some parts on tv which never worked out and now I know why, I love performing arts but as a hobby, it was never an intentional profession for me.

Fashion had always grabbed my attention, ever since I started creating ensembles on paper so it was a natural transition for me to start inquiring about it. Little by little I became, well obsessed to say the least. Fashion shows, magazines, models, design, ateliers, Paris, London, New York... You have no idea how much I cried when Versace was murdered. (Side note on celebrity mournings: People for whom I have cried a ridiculous amount over; River Phoenix, Michael Hutchence, Anne Bancroft, Whitney Houston and Gianni). So you can say I was quite involved, I was getting to know the whole industry inside and out from my very own high school classroom. Crazy fact: my grandmother offered to buy me a John Galliano for my prom!!!!! I decided not to splurge and travel to Europe instead, that´s the smart (frugal) girl in me...

I eventually finished high school, I was extremely pleased by this accomplishment, Im not very fond of routines and having to assist to the same building for five consecutive years was hardly a highlight in my young adult days. It was over, now all I had to do was decide what to do with the rest of my life...
Needless to say that all the counseling Id gone through and all the University pamphlets  did not make any difference whatsoever. I was completely lost. I let the Ouija board decide for me! I asked it if I had to study fashion, the board said yes. I never questioned it or even took a moment to observe the ridiculousness of the situation. I took it as a sign.

I entered THE WORLD OF FASHION. WOW, how un-wonderful, un-glamourous and un-amazing it turned out to be. I had to make prints and take measures. The horror. Despite being in hell, I excelled (once again, teacher proud telling mom I had so much promise). Once the studies were over I didn´t have a clue on what to do with that, it wasn´t a even a real industry in Argentina way back in those days. The solution was live in a big happening city...

London was, is and always will be my special place in the world. No brainer, London it is. Only I said to myself I already know this fashion bit, why not pursue another dream? Acting. (to be cont.)
